Privacy policy
Short summary: NeBu does not request, collect or store any personal data. No accounts, no email, no tracking cookies. Scanning happens in your browser; only the scanned barcode is queried against the product database.
No account required
Using NeBu does not require signing up, providing an email, or creating a password. There is no user identity.
Scanning in the browser
Barcode camera scanning happens in your browser via the ZXing library. Images, photos or the camera stream are not sent to our servers and not stored.
External request — OpenFoodFacts only
The scanned product barcode is sent as a query to the OpenFoodFacts (https://world.openfoodfacts.org) open data API. This request is an anonymous GET query and contains no user identifier or device fingerprint. OpenFoodFacts has its own separate privacy policy; link below.
On-device history (local)
If history is enabled (mobile app), the last 50 scans are stored on your device via AsyncStorage / localStorage. This data does not leave your device, is not a cookie, and is not accessible to others. It is lost when your device browser data is cleared.
No tracking cookies
No ad cookies, no behavior tracking cookies, no third-party pixels. Cloudflare Web Analytics (anonymous page views without storing IP) may be enabled at the end of phase 1B; this page will be updated at that point.
No behavioral analytics
We do NOT use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, Mixpanel or similar. When usage statistics become necessary, we'll only pick an anonymous, IP-discarding, GDPR/KVKK-aligned solution.
KVKK + GDPR status
Because no personal data (KVKK Art. 3-d) is collected, we have no 'data controller' obligation under Turkey's KVKK Law no. 6698. The same applies to EU GDPR — no personal data is processed. If processing tied to a user identity ever begins (e.g. an account feature in phase 7 via Supabase), this page will be updated first and a privacy notice will be added.
Third-party links
Pages link to sites like OpenFoodFacts, EU Commission, EFSA, WHO, IARC. Those sites have their own privacy policies. When you click and leave, NeBu's responsibility ends.
Changes
If this policy changes, the 'last updated' date is updated. For material changes, a banner is shown on ne-bu.net's home page (e.g. when an account feature is added).
